Every summer, on the shores of Lake Osiglia, the tranquility of the Ligurian hinterland comes alive with one of the most anticipated sporting events in the Bormida Valley. Athletes from various regions of Italy and even from abroad gather here to participate in the Triathlago, a competition that combines sports, nature, and a spirit of camaraderie.
The event, part of the Italian Triathlon Federation’s national calendar, allows athletes to experience the local area through the three disciplines that define this sport: swimming, cycling, and running. The course makes the most of the unique terrain of Osiglia and its surroundings. It begins with the swimming leg in the lake, continues by bike along the roads of the Ligurian hinterland through curves and technical sections, and concludes with the run along the lakefront, on a picturesque stretch completely closed to traffic.
The Triathlago was founded in the late 1990s through a partnership between the Pro Loco of Osiglia and the Triathlon Savona sports club, with the aim of promoting a sport that was just beginning to take root in Italy at the time. Over the years, the event has grown while retaining its original spirit: a sporting competition that combines competition, friendship, and a passion for the outdoors.
The race is traditionally held during the week leading up to Ferragosto, a time that allows athletes and their companions to explore the Ligurian hinterland during one of the liveliest periods of the summer. Combining sports, nature, and a friendly atmosphere, the Triathlago has become a well-established event on the Italian triathlon scene over the years.
The competition is held over the federal Sprint distance, which consists of a 750-meter swim, an 18-kilometer bike ride, and a 4.5-kilometer run.
